Subaru's 2008 model Forester has maintained the fleet's five-star rating in crash testing results conducted by the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP).
The 2008 Forester rated 34.31 out of a possible 37 points for occupant protection following tests conducted late last month & scoring well in all facets of the crash test regime.
"We are pleased to see more manufacturers providing the latest safety technologies. This result for the new Impreza model demonstrates Subaru\'s commitment to improving vehicle safety and is great news for car buyers," the ANCAP partners said.
ANCAP chair, Lauchlan McIntosh, said the Forester had ABS, electronic brake distribution and electronic stability control (ESC) as standard in all models. ESC is now an ANCAP requirement for any 5-star rating.
"It is pleasing to see these vehicles with features like ESC as standard on all models, making the latest vehicle safety technology available to all consumers - this is as well as dual front airbags, side airbags and head-protecting side curtain airbags," Mr McIntosh said.
"The vehicle also scored well in the three crash tests conducted - frontal offset, side impact and the optional pole test."
"Manufacturers and distributors now recognise the importance of these safety technologies as standard features - cars are definitely safer than they were five years ago."
The Forester also scored well in the pedestrian protection tests, receiving three out of a possible four stars.
ANCAP crash tests new vehicles, awards them a star rating for safety and publicises the results to the motoring public. ANCAP is supported by all Australian and New Zealand motoring clubs, all Australian state governments, the New Zealand government, the Victorian Transport Accident Commission, the Insurance Australia Group and the FIA Foundation.
